Pete Stone - A Man Ahead of his time...
So said the Sydney Morning Herald about Pete Stone's first album - now he is a man of his time, whose time has come. With Golden Frontier he creates an album as wide as the Western Australian landscape. What does that mean? It means the songs move with broad strokes, the melodies are textured, the emphasis is on the feeling. The results are astounding. This album, produced by John Kilbey, was recorded with just two microphones. It sounds crisp, classic, expansive. Pete's voice is smooth, expressive, detailed.
This is really a landmark Australian album – Stone explores deep inside the Australian psyche in a way that is revealing without ever being obtrusive – themes such as domestic violence, alcoholism, disappointment, drug addiction, isolation as well as love, intimacy and finding real contentment are all covered deftly, subtly and with an insight which is never didactic.
Pete Stone has created something of unique beauty and truth with Golden Frontier.

Review of 'Golden Frontier' album
Scene Magazine
"Hailed as a cross between Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake, Pete Stone's Golden Frontier is as intimate as an album can get. Recorded with guitar, bass, violin, mandolin, harmonica and three voices in Stone's home in Western Australia, you couldn't ask for a more personal touch of Australian beauty - his sensitivity, caressing each note as if the entire Western Australian sky was listening."

Review of 'Inside Upstairs' album
Juice Magazine
“Stone doesn’t try to do too much: he just writes simple, emotive lyrics, sings them to simple catchy melodies and records them with just enough sonic awareness. It’s a simple formula – one used by all the best singer songwriters from Bob Dylan to Ron Sexsmith…sure to be one of the best Australian releases of 2000".

“Pete Stone writes a good song…you can imagine Nick Cave tearing through ‘Big Fella’ or Willie Nelson having a ball with ‘Sing to Me’.”
