by Steve Kilbey

We are living in an age of miracles
unstable phenomenon
beneath a thin veneer
spirit resides
we have seen many things together
since we first came here to Nineveh
(from Nineveh)

Imagine a thin piece of time. Decorate this with events. Invent their language. Set Erskine carefully down in there, place him towards the end, for example...
Will Erskine manifest himself for you? Then give him a little help, give him a mirror to dress in. Give him a face to shave.
...If you have read this far, you may be disappointed to see that a coherent story refuses to take place. But honestly, I ask you: does your own life have a coherent story that could be told with no fictitious insertions to hang it all together?
(from The Ephemeron)

The Ephemeron

The Ephemeron is a story about Erskine the Magician, whose lives and deaths in this world and others is documented as he journeys through anachronistic and bizarre adventures. Partly autobiographical, partly allegoric, partly water. Written in a stream of consciouness style this is one part of a planned full length Erskine saga. For people who like my lyrics this story will evoke familiar themes and moods with its magic, ghosts, beasts, children and other assorted weirdos.

Nineveh concerns the return in astral form of a visitor who once lived in the Biblical city of Nineveh. There is a planned soundtrack for the Nineveh story. Ephemeron is written more in prose style while Nineveh is in verse. While neither stories are what you might call an easy read persistence will be rewarded and allusions will be found to characters and events in my songs. I am interested to hear what you make of it... SK
